P30 entries

Raised by Robin Wiles

A ban on entries from anyone who has placed in the top 5 (10?) of any BMFA competition in the past 5 years.
This would I feel, return the class to 'beginners' and 'returnees'.

What I have in mind is a simple class for beginners to have a chance of winning/placing to encourage them - there are plenty of other events for the rest of us to compete in.

Feedback:

Discussed at FFTC meeting 12/05. FFTC view is that such a change would reduce entries to virtually zero.

Separate Vintage Rubber and Power

Raised by Dennis Davitt

I have never understood why Vintage Rubber is grouped with Vintage Power.

Vintage Glider stands by itself, so gliders fly against gliders. Similarly I think power should fly against power, and rubber against rubber.

I think there are enough numbers competing for separate classes, and can see no good reason why they should be combined.

I ask that this be considered when looking at rule changes.

Feedback:

Discussed at FFTC meeting 30/06. FFTC view is that power and rubber performances are similar enough not to justify yet more classes.

Team Selection

Raised by Phil Ball

Team selection be based on the results from the two UK World Cup Events plus the Nationals.

Best 2 from 3 with Plugge or percentage points to count for classification.

Percentage points give a better result as it is proportional to the score and therefore fairer than Plugge.

Reasons:

World Cup events are run to World and European format.

Including the Nationals would increase participation at what is still the best supported centralised event.

Use of existing events would save a considerable amount of money.

Plugge or percentage points would avoid weather variations at each event.

Will free up valuable dates in the Autumn.

Team Selection

Raised by FFTC

That Team Selection be based on the results of one dedicated Team Selection Meeting plus one of the two UK based and run World Cup events.

Reasons: The present three Team Selection Meetings produce low entries that do not justify the cost and organisation required. In addition the present format bears little resemblance to the actual Championship event.

Feedback:

Discussed by the FFTC during 2011. The general feeling was that the present team selection process needs to be altered due to lack of interest. No firm conclusions have yet been reached.

RCDT

Raised by FFTC

That RCDT be introduced for all classes with provisos for operation that prevent the taking of 'non scoring' attempts.  (Possibly some classes might be excluded on bases such as 'beginner status' or 'vintageness', etc.)

Reason:

The introduction of RCDT for the main FAI classes has in the main been successful and there appears to be a growing desire for the benefits to be extended to the domestic classes.

Feedback:

Discussed by the FFTC during 2011. No firm conclusions have yet been reached.

F1Q Electric

Raised by FFTC Electric Sub Committee

That for UK domestic events in 2012 where the 'Power Measurement' option is used to determine allowable motor run, then the average power measurement shall be that measured during the test 10 seconds after motor start-up.

Reasons:

The 2012 FAI F1Q rules specify that where the 'Power Measurement' option is used to determine the allowable motor run, then that shall be the average power measured at the start of the motor run. This measurement will not be the average power and is also difficult to measure with any reasonable accuracy. This proposal would also be put to the FAI but their rule change process will not permit its implementation until 2013

BMFA Electric

Raised by FFTC Electric Sub Committee

That the BMFA Electric class specifications be changed to the following:

Maximum Motor Weight  ............................ Brushed          120 grams

                                                                            Brushless         60 grams

Maximum Battery Weight ........................... Nickel Based   120 grams

                                                                            Lithium Based  90 grams

      Maximum Motor Run ........................................................15 Seconds

Model specifications: No restrictions to airframe other than in-flight camber changes,

surface area changes, or bunt functions are not permitted.

Reasons:

The present rules allow too much possible performance and this should be reduced. Also the class should be kept simple and the rules easy to understand.
